About Us

From humble beginnings

Unicare Devon was born out of friendship and a passion to look after the most vulnerable in our local community. Our journey began with a conversation over coffee in 2008 at Bridgette’s kitchen table. Over the following two years, John and Bridgette worked tirelessly gaining experience and training within the care sector and building the foundations to develop our domiciliary care service.

Realising a dream

In 2010 our dreams were realised and Unicare Devon was awarded its registration with the CQC. Since then, we are proud to have become one of the County’s leading care providers supporting Devon County Council and the NHS in local innovation within our sector.

Fast forward to today and Unicare Devon continues to steadily grow and support our community through a range of initiatives to reduce isolation. We are delighted to have launched a purpose-built kindness café that offers a friendly, safe place to connect with others. Our commitment to supporting the wellbeing of our clients includes accessing the community and enabling people to realise their dreams by experiencing a range of activities such as Days out, Rock climbing, holidays or simply visiting the local pub.

We’re very proud to provide an outstanding care service to our local community.

Starting Unicare Devon in 2010 whilst having a very young family and working two jobs was a challenge, however, to see where the company is today makes me very proud as I really couldn’t ask for a better team of people around me. They ensure the care our clients receive is nothing short of person-centred and reflects the individual’s needs and wishes.

Very proud.

Having established Unicare Devon in 2010 with John Powell, we were and still are, passionate about developing a company with family values at its core. After arriving in Devon in 1992 from Cornwall, I have had a variety of roles including supporting looked after children but the one that really resonated with me was providing Community care. As a busy mum to two children and with lots of family now living locally, I love spending time my time with them and getting out and about and enjoying what beautiful Devon has to offer.

Before joining Unicare Devon in July 2019, I spent part of my life in Australia where my children were born, but then came home where I worked within Torbay as a Health and Social Care Assessor assisting individuals to gain their qualifications. When outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family which includes my husband and two adult children, one if which is married. We enjoy spending time together and taking walks in the countryside and by the beautiful beaches of Devon.
